Foals of 2005 Have Arrived!
This spritely colt, born February 1, 2005 is by the stallion Gun Power, the only son of Unbridled standing in Canada. He is the first foal out of the Winston Penny owned mare, Call Display, by Phone Trick. Woodbine's richestThoroughbred event just got richer
The Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International, the country's most renowned international horse race, is worth a record $2 million in 2005, up significantly from the $1.5 million purse offered last year.
The substantial hike is one of several highlights on the lucrative 2005 Thoroughbred stakes schedule announced today by the Woodbine Entertainment Group.
The 101-race calendar, worth a record $21 million this year, launches on Opening Day of the 167-day meet with the $125,000-added Jacques Cartier Stakes for older sprinters, on Saturday, April 16.
The 1 1/2-mile Pattison Canadian International,
which will be contested for the 68th consecutive time on Sunday, October 23, was not alone among the races receiving significant purse supplements this year.
The International's complement features, the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes, for fillies and mares, and the Nearctic Stakes, Woodbine's outstanding Grade 2 turf sprint, also benefited.
The Taylor is worth $1 million in 2005, up from the $750,000 purse pledged in 2004 while the Nearctic had its purse doubled from $250,000 to $500,000.
Overall, stakes purses were raised $1 million for the October 23 card, the richest day of Thoroughbred racing in Canada in 2005.
