The different methods of Zone include:
• The Hand-Eye Method
• The Zone Food Block Method
Foods allowed/restricted?
Allowed:
• Proteins - Lean beef, pork, lamb, veal, game, skinless chicken
and turkey, fish and shellfish, vegetarian protein, tofu, other
soy products, egg whites, low fat cheese, low fat milk and
yogurt
• Fat - Avocados, nuts and nut butters, and oils
• Carbs - fruits vegetables, grains
Restricted:
• High-sugar fruits/vegetables
• Refined processed carbs and foods
• Foods with added sugar
• Soft drinks, coffee, and tea
Disadvantages/Adverse Response
It’s claim to improve performance is not supported by scientific
evidence. A “low carb” diet for endurance/strength athletes is not
ideal.
The Zone diet makes a lot of health claims, but there is not enough
significant evidence to support them. People may end up restricting
foods high in fiber, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium adhering to the
30-40-30 macro ratio and food list.
