The Zone diet typically caps daily calories at 1,200 for women (11
blocks) and 1,500 for men (14 blocks). This is significantly low for
anyone who is wanting to exercise at high-intensity or competing at
any type of level in sport. This does not promote recovery or allow for
optimal performance because overall intake is so low.
Counting blocks and measuring foods for blocks is difficult and
tedious. If someone is new to nutrition, weighing and measuring
food, this would not be the ideal diet to start with. There will be little
compliance and a high rate of failure due to the tedious work that is
required to plan meals.
