Getting Press Is Easier Than You Think
As a Tiny Business, you have carefully articulated your
“why”—the things that matter to you, your business, and
the world—and woven them into your brand story. You
have something of value. You have exactly what media
needs: a story with a perspective and a takeaway.
Media placements don’t always tie back immediately
to transactional business, but they do build your profile as
a thought leader, which leads to more and stronger rela-
tionships, which then lead to more opportunities.
But media placement cannot just be about you and
your story. Ultimately, it’s about you adding value to the
outlet and their audience. For this reason, it is essential
that you carefully research the outlets that are the right fit
for you. This is not about throwing spaghetti against the
wall to see what sticks. It’s about using your Tiny laser
focus to connect with like-minded communities and share
the value you are creating.

magazine. The writer knew from a Time feature she’d done
on my business seven years ago that I would be a good
source to quote. We’d stayed in touch over the years. The
