3 MINING FOR GOLD
Have you ever found yourself getting really pissed off at someone you know? Have
you ever asked yourself where that anger comes from? Or why that person or that
situation triggers you so much?
Shadow is a term that was introduced through the fathers of psychoanalysis Jung and
Freud. In Freud's theories of the mind there's this idea that we live our lives on three
levels: the conscious level, the subconscious level, and the unconscious level.
The literature suggests that our shadow is in our unconscious mind because we cannot
see it. Now shadow may sound dark and shady but shadow isn't necessarily dark or
shady at all. Basically, the idea of this type of psychoanalysis takes a very holistic
approach to the human personality. A good example of shadow is say you are a
grumpy, bitter, difficult person to deal with in your conscious awareness. You’re
always grumbling and people find it very difficult to be around you. You are that
annoying person. If this is you, then your shadow may actually be a very sweet, gentle,
kind caring soft natured part of your personality.
