NUR 533 (High-Risk Childbearing Family)
Provides the theoretical basis of nursing care of the high-risk maternal-fetal unit
during the antenatal and natal periods and the family and the high-risk infant during
the postnatal period. The course will analyze research literature, develop an
understanding of the immediate and long-term effects of health crises on the
childbearing family and develop an integrated theoretical framework for provision
of nursing care to the high-risk maternal fetal/neonatal unit and the family.
NUR 534 (Pathophysiological Aspects of Reproduction & Development)
This course focuses on the in-depth analysis of the pathophysiological basis
and nursing practice of the high-risk women and the foetus. Selected topics of
importance to human reproduction and development are emphasized. The
pathophysiology, treatment and nursing management of the selected disorders or
syndrome of the high-risk will be studies.
NUR 535 (Clinical Practicum for the High-Risk Childbearing Family)
Application of theory and research in caring for families experiencing complicated
pregnancies and for infant at risk. Assessment techniques and management
approaches are refined and extended with content emphasis on high-risk conditions
and complications in the reproductive process. Emphasis is placed on perinatal
nurse’s role in providing continuity of care to the high-risk pregnant mother. A
family centred orientation is stressed and theoretical models for the study of high-
risk family and development of nursing practice are examined and utilized in
caregiving.

Elective Courses for Maternity Nursing
NUR 583 (Methods of Perinatal Nursing)
Application of theory and research in the clinical setting concerning the high-risk
antenatal patient and her fetus. Field experience take place in high-risk clinics in
perinatal centers. Emphasis is on the perinatal nurse’s role in providing continuity
of care to high-risk pregnant women.
NUR 586 (Gynecological Health Problems of Women)
Focuses on effective nursing assessment and intervention utilizing physical,
emotional and social needs inherent in women’s gynecologic health problems.
Relevant clinical experience will be arranged according to student’s clinical
objectives and professional goals.
NUR 587 (Principles of Parent Teaching)
The principles of teaching/ learning is applied to preparing families and other
groups of childbearing. Development of philosophy of teaching and a series of
parent classes and supervised teaching experiences are included.
