NUR 561 (Practicum in Nursing Services)
The practicum affords students an opportunity to integrate administrative theory,
principles and practice in a selected area within a health care setting. The focus is
on developing beginning skills in selected administrative strategies in nursing
practice. Field placements are arranged to support skill development in keeping
with the student's career goals.
NUR 562 (Organizational Theories)
Current conceptualizations such as power, goal, change, conflict, and related
organizational theories and their relevance for administration nursing are
emphasized. The focus is on nursing health care organizations. Study of relevant
legislation and examination of related research are also included.
NUR 563 (Advanced Nursing Service Administration)
The course focuses on the integration of nursing and management theories for
applications in nursing service settings. In-depth study of key issues included in the
development of integrated nursing management institutional finance, quality
management, measuring quality of patient care, systems of performance appraisal
and staff development measures.
NUR 564 (Behavioral Science in Management)
Basic grounding in in behavioral sciences relevant to management. Focus on basic
principles of human relations and management: leadership, motivation,
interpersonal relations, group dynamics, career development, organizational
communication, problem-solving and decision-making, intergroup relations and
conflict management. Lecture, discussions, simulations, case analysis and
application of course concepts to real life situations.
NUR 565 (Advanced Practicum in Nursing Services Administration)
Practicum experiences within a health agency will include responsibilities in human
resource management. Specific application of decision theory will be directed
toward management information systems, patient classification and staffing and
performance appraisal. Participant’s observation of the role of nurse administrator
in the areas of personal management, staff development and change and innovation
will be arranged.

NUR 594 (Application of Decision-Making to Nursing practice)
Intensive study of the nursing process as decision-making in the clinical setting.
Clinical judgment and nursing management are subjected to rules of decision-
making based on consideration of probability, therapeutic value, risk of
consequences and validity through evaluation.
