than James and Thomas, and his impressive
muscularity terrorized many of the students. He was
the leader of a gang of friends whose favourite
pastime was persecuting younger or lonely children.
Proud and tyrannical, he changed his behaviour
radically in the presence of Kate, for whom he had as
much admiration as James had for her. Charlie was
very attractive with his almost white blond hair, his
oval face and his blue eyes that shone with cunning
and intelligence.

“But... didn't you say there was a child who died
recently in that forest and whose body would have
strangely disappeared before anyone could
recognize him?” James asked, remembering the
frightening article about the case

“Exciting, isn't it?” exclaimed Thomas.

“Shall we go?” Kate said cheerfully.

James agreed, not wanting to disappoint Kate. But by
the time he agreed, he was sure he had seen the
reddish glow and dangerous look that had quickly
passed over Thomas' face, reinforcing his bad feeling.

When they left the house a sudden thought
contracted his stomach, he remembered his dream,
his dream in which he was dead, dead in the forest,
