용소나무(원주 보호수 제69호, 수령 약 300년)는 강원도
원주시 소초면 학곡리에 자리 잡고 있다.
전설에 따르면 치악산 용소에는 아홉 마리의 용이 살고 있었
는데, 여덟 마리는 하늘로 승천하였고, 한 마리만 승천하지
못하여 용소물을 따라 내려오면서 용너미, 용고개를 지나
이 소나무를 통해 승천하였다고 하여 ‘용소나무’라고 불린다.

The Yongso Pine (Protected Tree No. 69, approx. 300 years
old) is located in Hakgok-ri, Socho-myeon, Wonju, Gangwon-
do.
According to legend, nine dragons once lived in Yongso,
Chiak Mountain. Eight of them ascended to the heavens,
but one dragon could not. Following the waters of Yongso, it
passed Yongneomi and Yonggogae before finally ascending
through this pine tree, which is why it is called the Yongso
Pine.

용소나무의 숨결
학곡리 하늘 아래,
용소나무는 우뚝 서서
땅의 고요를 뿌리로 마시고
용의 숨결처럼 가지를 휘어 올린다.
그늘 아래 멈추는 시간,
바람은 강인함을 속삭인다.
세월의 결에 새겨진
굽히지 않는 혼.
