BEYOND BASICS
Every concept has been discovered on my path to “Maximum
Efficiency, Minimum Effort”!
The “Ten Elements” is a cyclical, continuous process for
improvement and development of martial art skills. These ten
elements are my criteria for teaching, testing, and officiating forms
competition. Forms Players would often ask officials their opinion
of the form. The criteria of the ten elements always gave them a
list of areas for improvement as well as their strengths. Many
times, their eyes would glaze over because they weren’t expecting
such a comprehensive critique.
The Ten Elements is part of a teaching system which is only being
discussed here as it applies to some of the topics in this book.
The ten elements are an expansion of a writing by my teacher on
the Hyung (form) Training Process.
This process was composed of Eight Elements and only applied to
forms.
