“Moving Northward, i.e. improving Potential, is more difficult. That is why company

recruitment systems put higher value on the Potential of the candidates, albeit in a subjective

way. It is done for two other reasons – first, it is impossible to assess contributions of an

individual in 1-hour interview. Second, subjective assessment of the potential can provide an

indication if the individual can fit in the company culture.”

“I too have given higher weightage to Potential because I consider it difficult to teach and

learn these skills. Contribution improvement, on the other hand, can be guided through

               coaching and training.”

“However, thanks to your Learning Cycle model and the outstanding progress you have

demonstrated on Social Intelligence skills in such a short time, I will have to reconsider my

belief.” Ron said laughing and raised his hands up in surrender. His eyes caught the sight of

               his wristwatch by chance.

“Goodness. It is quite late. Let us call it a day. I would not want to interfere with your work-

life balance.” And he laughed again.

“It is not an issue with me Ron. But if you have few more minutes, can I ask you another

question now that this topic has come up?”

                  “Sure, Dan. Please go ahead.”

“What do you think of this newfound focus on work-life balance?”

“In all humility, I must say that it is symptom of a bigger, but unconnected problem. It is

complicated but I will try to explain as simply as I can.”
