my work; in fact, my productivity and work life has improved.”

“I am so glad that you are benefitting in so many ways Dan. I have not come across such a

fast learner before. It is truly remarkable.”

“So, what say? We call it a day?” asked Ron.

Dan nodded and started to gather his things.

“Have a great weekend Dan. Say hello to Betsy. We must catch up someday soon.”

Thanks Ron. Will love to. Have a nice weekend and goodnight.”

They shook hands and Dan left Ron’s office thoughtfully quiet.

‘Hasn’t Ron already answered my promotability question without saying a word? I probably fit the bottom

right box in the Potential-Contribution matrix.’

The thought was sobering. He had begun to realize and accept his unreadiness to make a

Director, but the structured understanding of the reasons was disappointing.

His emotions were muddled up; the happiness of past few weeks’ achievement left no place

for negativity, but a hint of sadness had now emerged.

‘I need to face the reality. This is the truth. At least I know now. Wasn’t this the very reason that brought

me to Ron? In fact, I am blessed to have learnt so much that has changed my life. Knowing the truth often hurts

but fighting it prolongs the pain. I must accept it and celebrate that I not only know what needs to be done but

am already practicing it, noticeably as everyone, including Ron, has remarked.
