4 on the grid for the first race, 7 for the second and 2 for your last race.
You get points for finishing higher than your starting position and points for
coming first, second or third. I hope you understand all that” said the secretary,
               smiling at Harry.

“This is my first race so I think I shall just concentrate on getting round
               quickly!” replied Harry.

Jack appeared wearing his match day white coat.

“Morning Harry. Are your ready to race?” he asked.

“I’m a bit nervous. I’ve never done anything like this before”, replied Harry.

“You will be fine. Remember to hold your line and watch out for other
               drivers”, said Jack.

“I’m a bit nervous too, Jack” said Harry’s daddy.

Jack smiled and told them that they had 30 minutes before the first race.

Straight awa,y they set to, getting the kart down to the pit stop.

Once there, James started her up and listened to the engine. He revved her up

and listened some more. It was quite difficult hearing because another race was
in progress so the air was filled with the roar of kart engines.

“She is running well”, said James, happy that his adjustments, made yesterday,
               still seemed to be working.

Harry put on his race leathers and checked that the helmet was comfortable.

His teeth started to chatter as he was getting very nervous.

It was nearly time for the race. The previous race had just finished so they
                                                                                           th
moved the kart down to the grid and positioned themselves at the 4 line. Other
karts were being moved into position and the drivers were eyeing each other up
trying to assess what the competition might be. Harry kept to himself and just
concentrated on how he was going to drive. He thought about the brakes that

gripped firmly if applied too hard. He thought about the engine that could make
the wheels spin if revved too quickly.

               “Five minutes”, called Jack.

“Remember, each race is 5 laps of the track.”

By now, Harry was feeling very nervous and he wondered whether this was
really what he wanted to do. The drivers started their engines. Harry did the
