Notes On Ratonut For 1348.
Genorol.
The revenue for 1348 shows a Tory serious foiling off. The
deorease/mainly in the Customs collections, the oheJf revenue of
the State, The reason io apparently general trade depression,
an abnormally bad pearl season, whioh shows no sign of reoovery,
and, to a lesser extent, the disturbances on thfe mainland cauned
by the recent rebellion.
There hoc been o notioeable decrease in the actual wholesale
coot of most imports, exoept rice. Shortage of noney occasioned
Ly the bad pearl neason, hao reduoed the local purchase of nost
fomo of luxurioo.

Customs Reoeiptn.
The Custpse collections are the roal indication ef the
financial condition and they refleot the notarial condition of the
State. The total reyenue includes such items as sales of lande
8to. and so oannot be taken as a genuine representation of reyenue.
From the year 1344 until this year there has been a steady inoroast
in Customs reyenue. This year it has fallen book to almost as
iow as it wao in 1344, on admittedly bad year.
Although the reyenue was estimated in the 1348 Budgot on a
very oonseryatiye basis the actual receipts fell short of the
buflgoted amount by Ra. 32,000/-,
