Standard Operating Procedure – Applicants with Declared Disabilities
Primary Responsibility: Admissions Committee
Secondary Responsibility: Assistant Registrar
Definition: Procedure outlines the steps taken when an applicant with a declared disability applies for a
program
Purpose: To create a standardized process for the admission of students with disabilities. The
Admissions Committee will grant the final decision of the request.
Time Frame: Requested at any time
Step 1 •When the student applies and declares he/she has a disability;
the application should be processed as per SOP for admissions.
Special precautions must be in place to protect the applicant’s
disability status.
•Student The admission office will inform the Student Affairs of
students who enroll in a program at GAU with disabilities. A SA
Step 2 staff will make contact with students at least four weeks before
the commencement of the program to discuss the following:
•Housing, classroom and dining accommodations
•Placement exam accommodations
The student will fill out a Special Services form via Ujuzi
