Inaugural NYAA-NParks Garden Festival Photo
Exhibition
The inaugural NYAA-NParks Garden Festival Photo
Exhibition was launched by Mr Desmond Lee, Minister
for National Development and Minister-in-Charge
for Social Services, at the HortPark on 17 October
2021. About forty guests were invited to the launch
ceremony. However, the number was capped below
fifty due to the COVID-19 pandemic SMM rulings. A
photo exhibition was displayed by four professional
award-winning Singapore photographers, Darren
Soh, Charmaine Yap, Gareth Phua and Yeo Wee Han. Inaugural NYAA-NParks Garden Festival Photo Exhibition

polytechnics.
After the official launch, the NYAA YPN and NParks
conducted four workshops on 20 and 26 November
and 10 and 18 December 2021. The four workshops
were well attended, and students learned the
concepts, techniques and subject matters from the
professional photographers. The students were asked
to go out and shoot on the theme Nature in the City
and submit their images to the NYAA for selection for
the Garden Festival 2022 Photo Exhibition.
NYAA-NParks Photography Workshop
Mr Darren Soh, an architectural and landscape
photographer and NYAA Gold Award holder (1998
Cohort), led three award-winning photographers
to mentor 40 students from secondary schools, ITE
and polytechnics in the art of capturing nature in
Singapore through the lens.
The workshops held in November and December
2021 discovered many raw talents in our young
people. One such participant, Ms Liew Shan Yi from
ITE College East, captured a magical image outside
HortPark on the Alexander Arch toward the Southern
Ridges, an almost perfect image through her lens.
She displayed significant potential to join the ranks
of renowned award-winning photographers in
Singapore if she continued to develop her skills.
