• The Bukit Panjang Long Hill Project
The Long Hill of Bukit Panjang is a photography project
undertaken by West Spring Primary School, engaging
60 primary school students in capturing the essence
of Bukit Panjang. Supported and coached by the
NYAA Young Photographers' Network, the students'
images of buildings, landscapes, people, food courts,
and places of worship were impressive.
NYAA published a book commemorating West Spring
Primary School's 10th Anniversary in November 2023.
Mr Edward Chia, Member of Parliament for Holland-
Bukit Timah GRC (Zhenghua Ward), launched the
book at the 10th Anniversary Celebration.
• Official Opening of the State Courts Tower
President Halimah Yacob graced the Official Opening
of the State Courts Towers in July 2023. Initially
planned for an earlier opening in 2020 but postponed
due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Darren Soh, an
architectural photographer and visual archivist of
modernism, was invited by The Honourable Justice
See Kee Oon to document the demolition and
construction of the new State Courts Towers. Mr
Soh’s photographs were exhibited at the event, which
President Halimah Yacob, The Honourable Chief
Justice Sundaresh Menon, and The Honourable Judge
of the State Courts Justice Vincent Hoong attended.
• Story Behind the Golden Mile Complex
Ms Gwen Pew, an award-winning journalist and
community builder, invited Mr Darren Soh to share
the story behind the national treasure Golden Mile
Complex and its conservation. The storytelling
event, held at Cantine @ Arab Street, was hosted by
Creative Morning Singapore and was well attended.
Mr Soh, an NYAA Gold Award holder and founding
member of the NYAA Young Photographers’ Network,
is an award-winning architectural and landscape
photographer.
• Meeting of Minds
A meeting of the minds took place between Mr Woon
Tai Ho, a veteran media practitioner and founder
of Channel NewsAsia, and Mr Darren Soh. Mr Soh
presented his book “Everyday Modernism,” a visual
narrative of Singapore architecture from the 1950s
to the 80s. In exchange, Mr Woon presented Mr Soh
with the book “Rainbow after Dusk” by Lim Tze Peng.
This meeting highlighted the mutual admiration and
respect between two accomplished Singaporean
artists.
