• Gerontology Programme Workshop 2023
NYAA, in collaboration with partners, recognises
the transformative potential of ageing and aims to
redefine it as a positive force amid demographic
challenges. In line with this vision, NYAA has initiated
a Gerontology project tailored for schools and
institutes of higher learning.
In February 2024, a pivotal workshop was held
for GAHA leaders, school department heads, and
student leaders. Conducted by esteemed experts
Prof. Carol Ma, Head of the Gerontology Programme
at Singapore University of Social Sciences, and Dr.
Amberyce Ang, an Analyst at the Ministry of Defence
specialising in Ageing Research at SUSS, the workshop
attracted significant participation.
The event was instrumental in shaping a proposed
programme slated for rollout in 2024. It underscores
NYAA’s commitment to leveraging gerontology as
a catalyst for educational and societal enrichment,
empowering future leaders to embrace and address
the complexities of an ageing population proactively.
• NYAA Mobile Apps Training Workshop
In June 2023, 100 Silver Award participants from
Queenstown Secondary School benefited from this
initiative, led by an App Engineer from e1 Concept.
Students exhibited enthusiasm and engagement
during the workshop, actively participating and
posing insightful questions about the application’s
functionalities. Post-training, participants shared
their newfound knowledge with their respective CCA
teachers, highlighting the workshop’s practical value.
This initiative underscores NYAA’s commitment
to leveraging technology to enhance educational
experiences and streamline programme engagement.
Moving forward, NYAA aims to encourage more
schools to conduct similar in-house workshops,
fostering a tech-savvy environment conducive to
student development and programme success.
• The NYAA Junior Programme - Online
Briefings for Primary Schools
The NYAA Junior Programme, also called The Butterfly
Award, recently conducted online briefings for the
first 40 primary schools and National Uniformed
Groups. Participants included Vice-Principals, Heads
of Department, teachers, and officers from uniformed
groups.
A significant aspect of the briefing was a Q&A
session that provided valuable insights for teachers
on enrolling their students in the programme. Many
primary schools have embraced The NYAA Junior
Programme as their preferred student leadership
development initiative, highlighting a solid
partnership between NYAA and these educational
institutions.
