• Wikimania Photography Competition 2023
The Wikimania Photography Competition 2023,
held in April as a build-up to the Wikimania World
Conference in August, featured the theme “Living
Heritage.” Open to all Singaporeans and permanent
residents, the competition received over 1,000
images.

A panel of judges from the Wikimedia Foundation,
NYAA Young Photographers’ Network, and the
National Heritage Board selected the top three and
seven merit winners. The top three winners were:
First Prize: Mr Kari Shuur - Tekka Centre Wet Market,
Second Prize: Mr Rodney Ee - A Fiery Finale, and
Third Prize: Mr Henry Vante - A Girl Admiring Turkish
Lamps @ Arab Street. Mr James Soh, NYAA Executive
Director and co-organiser of the competition,
presented the prizes at the Wikimania Conference
2023 Closing Ceremony.

• Everyday Modernism
The book “Everyday Modernism” by Chang Jiat
Hwee, Justine Zhuang, and Darren Soh, an NYAA
Gold Award holder and Founding Member of the
NYAA Young Photographers’ Network, received the
prestigious Colvin Prize 2023 from the Society of
Architectural Historians of Great Britain in December
2023. The judging panel commended the book for its
conceptual excellence, broad scope, and innovative
exploration of Singapore’s urban landscape through
insightful text and carefully curated photographs by
Mr Soh.

The panel was chaired by Dr Elizabeth Darling and
included esteemed members from various academic
disciplines in the United Kingdom.

• The Culture Story: While You Are Sleeping
The Culture Story presented its first artist’s group
show titled “While You Are Sleeping,” featuring Mr
Darren Soh, an NYAA Gold Award holder and Founding
Member of the NYAA Young Photographers’ Network.

Curated by Ms Charmaine Toh, the exhibition
showcased the work of four outstanding Singapore
artists: Soo Koon Ang, Darren Soh, Sufian Samsiyar,
and Tang Day Wu. The exhibition, held from May
to August 2023, offered a sensory experience that
transcended everyday realities and attracted a vast
audience. Mr Soh also shared his experiences at the
Artist Talk in July 2023.
