• 52nd St. Gallen Symposium, Switzerland
NYAA Executive Director and Mr Desmond Lee,
Minister for National Development and Minister
in Social Service Integration, attended the 52nd St.
Gallen Symposium from 3 to 5 May 2023. Delegates
engaged with political and business leaders on
geopolitical issues, post-COVID-19 pandemic
recovery, and climate change adaptation involving
today’s and tomorrow’s leaders.
• Wings of Excellence 2023
Mr Elliot Gunn, an NYAA Award recipient, won the
First Prize in the St. Gallen Symposium Global Essay
Competition on the theme “A New Generational
Contract.” This achievement was particularly
significant as he was the first Singaporean to win the
top prize. The St. Gallen Symposium received over
600 essays from 260 universities worldwide.
• Study Trip to Finland
In May 2023, the NYAA team visited Helsinki, Finland,
to study environmental initiatives, educational
programmes, and elderly healthcare programmes.
The team met with the former Minister for the
Environment and Climate Change, senior Ministry of
Foreign Affairs officials, and the Senior Advisor to the
City of Helsinki Partners. The trip was an eye-opener,
allowing the NYAA team to learn from the Finnish
approach to providing a solid foundation for young
people.
• Visit to Siam Singapore International
School, Bangkok, Thailand
The NYAA team received a warm welcome at Siam
Singapore International School. The school expressed
interest in introducing the NYAA programme in
its leadership development curriculum. The NYAA
Executive Director presented the programme to
the school’s senior management, inspiring them to
implement it in 2024.
