happiness and purpose in life in the temporal
things and activities of this world rather than in
the eternal things of God. And God’s Word
clearly teaches that we are to “Love not the
world, neither the things that are in the world”
(1 Jn. 2:15) and that “whosoever therefore will
be a friend of the world is the enemy of God”
(James 4:4). Succinctly, “worldliness” could be
accurately defined, in part, as seeking pleasure
from the world rather than from God.
Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother
Although our children and their families are
very involved in church life, as our grandchildren
have gotten older, our differences in Christian
convictions have resulted in some discord and
some distancing in our relationship with our
children and grandchildren. But in spite of
differences with their parents, children at any
age are still instructed to honor their parents
(Eph. 6:2), and according to Ephesians 6:3,
