About Being a Grandmother
Obey Them That Have the Rule Over You
Part of making their stay at Grandma’s house a
pleasurable experience for our grandchildren
was to expect them to obey their grandparents as
those who had “the rule” over them when their
parents had left them in our care. Anything less
than those kinds of expectations would not be an
expression of God’s kind of love for our
grandchildren, because God’s kind of love does
not “wink” at sin, nor does it indulge
disobedient and inappropriate behavior by
ignoring that behavior.
God’s Word commands all of us to “Obey them
that have the rule over you, and submit
yourselves” (Heb. 13:17). As Christians, we
must submit to the laws of the land and those
who have authority over us insofar as that
submission does not require that we violate
God’s Word. We do children a disservice when
