➢ Uphold morals or character; In the adat tradition, it

is stated: kuaik rumah karano password, kuaik
bangso karano budi. (the house is strong because

of the joints, the nation is strong because of the

mind). Budi character is the religious values
expressed in every member of the Minang

community.
➢ Sincere (selfless); this is stated in the adat tradition:

budi jan tajua, understanding jan tagadai (budi not
to be sold, understanding not to be pawned). Doing

an action is based on kindness. A Minang people

do good or help not on the basis of material desires
(rewards or wages) but on the contrary on the basis

of kindness as plants donate themselves for the
continuation of human life.

➢ Spoken beautiful language; It is mentioned in the
adat tradition: good is iolah mind, beautiful is iolah

baso (good is mind, beautiful is language). Subtlety

of language, polite and polite language is a
manifestation of good character.

➢ Good manners; Mamangan adat states: want to go

far, cross the sangketo, pahaluih baso jo basi. (so
that disputes are far apart, refine the manners).
