Equipment
1. Linen for the closed bed
2. Small rubber sheet
3. One draw sheet
4. An extra rubber sheet and draw sheet for operated areas.
5. One face towel
6. One emesis basin (kidney basin)
7. Paper and pen for recording vital signs
8. Swabs, towels, or tissue paper
9. Paper bag or folded newspaper 9 (for waste)
10. I.V. stand (as needed)
11. Blood pressure apparatus
12. Oxygen (as needed)
13. Emergency drugs
14. Bed blocks (as needed)
15. Suction machine
Procedure
1. Strip bed
2. Make the bottom of the bed as usual
3. Place on a small rubber sheet where the site of operation will rest
4. Place another across the head of the bed where the head will lie ( to protect the bed
from vomits)
5. Cover them with a draw sheet, tucking it firmly under the mattress
6. Place top bedding as before but do not tuck in the bottom
7. Fold top covers up form sides; so they are even with the edge of the mattress all the
way around.
8. Fold top covers back at foot of the bed even with the edge of the mattress.
9. Place a pillow at the head of the bed between bed and mattress and tie it back with a
piece of the bandage of protecting the head of the patient.
10. Place pencil and paper, emesis basin and mouth wipes at the bedside table.
11. Place bedside tables and chairs so they will not be in the way of the stretcher.
12. Close the windows. Leave from clean and in order.
6.5 Amputation bed
Is a regular bed with a bed cradle.
Purpose
To leave the part open for observation
