                                  THE STORY OF OUR SCHOOL

        Truth to Teach (Source)

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Teaching children God’s ways is of utmost importance.

 The story of the School (or a local church)

 Christians through the ages often had responsibility for education.

        Way to Work (Means)

             1. Review how the children are progressing with their ‘This is My Life’ assignment.

             2. Remind the children of the qualities of a pioneer. Ask how many children know who
pioneered the opening of our School. Explain that God spoke to our church leaders who
prayed and envisioned the church. Ask why the children think the need was felt for a
Christian school. Refer to the above verses.

             3. A visiting speaker could recount the story of the School, photographs could be shown and
excerpts from books could be read. Past pupils could also share their memories. Refer to
the financial provision which came from faith in God.

Eg ‘The Love of God in the Classroom’ by Sylvia Baker and David Freeman
‘The First Ten Years’ by David Freeman

             4. Explain that Christians in the past often had responsibility for education. Talk briefly about
Robert Raikes who started Sunday Schools so that children could learn about God.
