P. 18
Together, we prepare people for work.
• Any personal relationship with a participant, including a sexual relationship or sexual
contact.
• A personal or business relationship or contact with a participant.
• Any contact with a participant that could adversely affect the participant or otherwise
reflect poorly on GESMN.
Employees are also prohibited from manually restraining a participant or employing any restrictive
procedures.
Some participants are vulnerable adults. A vulnerable adult is any person 18 years or older who is
unable to provide their own protection or care without assistance or is unlikely to report abuse or
neglect because of their mental, physical, or emotional status. This definition also applies to any
participant who is under the age of 18.
Goodwill-Easter Seals employees are required to immediately report any evidence of suspected abuse,
neglect, or exploitation of a participant to their supervisor, a case manager, or Human Resources.
Employees who make a report of suspected abuse in good faith will not be reprimanded, held liable, or
punished. However, disciplinary action, up to and including termination, will be taken if it is determined
that a false report was intentionally filed in bad faith.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in corrective action, up to and including termination of
employment.
For more information, see Rights of Persons Served (A-002), Mandated Reporting: Vulnerable Adults (B-
005), Mandated Reporting – Maltreatment of Minors (B-004), and Prohibition of Restrictive Procedures
(B-008) in the Policies and Procedures section on the organization’s intranet.
IMMIGRATION LAW COMPLIANCE
Goodwill-Easter Seals is committed to complying with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
GESMN only employs people authorized to work in the United States.
In compliance with immigration law, each new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility
Verification Form I-9 and present documentation establishing their identity and employment eligibility
as a condition of employment. Goodwill-Easter Seals uses E-Verify, an internet-based system, to verify
identity and determine employees' eligibility to work in the United States.
Employees with questions on immigration law issues should contact Human Resources.
GESMN prohibits any retaliation or reprisal against an employee who raises questions or makes a
complaint about immigration law compliance. Employees who believe they have been subjected to
retaliation or reprisal should report those concerns to Human Resources or call the Employee Concerns
Line at 866-832-4557.
