The bowling average at the end of this round is held by Morris Turner
(6.1), closely followed by Neville James (6.7), while Gary Carter has the highest
        batting average of 51 runs.
Morris Turner, Jeremy Maxwell, Glen Cohen and Laurie Paterson all field
consistently, taking some splendid catches, and making many fine saves.
This team has many up and coming cricketers and is headed for great
success in the inter-school competition in the future years.
We would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of both “A” and “B” grade
teams, to thank Mr. Steele for his untiring efforts and enthusiasm, which have
        made the teams successful.
STOP PRESS : Our cricket team has just made history by being the first team
on the South Side to win the A Grade Metropolitan Final.
                                      B GRADE
                                (Able to Improve)
After starting the season with a first innings loss, the “B" Grade cricket
side was able to improve itself and gain a first innings win by their third match.
This meant that, at the end of the first round, they were placed fifth in the
        Competition with 24.08 points.
The bowling average in the “B" Grade was taken out by Wayne Dunbar,
who was later promoted to “A" Grade, while Jeff Bailment won the batting
average by lustily hitting to all parts of the ground. Chris Hubbert, Roscoe
Foreman and Ian Feekings gave able support to Wayne and Jeff, and it was
surprising to find the “B” Grade not in a much higher position.
The team lacks experience, but after several more matches, in which it
will gain this experience, you may expect it to go on to greater
                            things.

                                   BOYS' BASKETBALL
                            A GRADE
                                      (Provided Spirited Opposition)

The A team provided all teams in the Zone with very spirited opposition.
Their record of one win, two draws and four losses is not imposing, but only
one game was lost by a margin of more than six points. Their standard of
team work was equal to that of any other team in the competition.
Two problems faced the team —
           (a) Lack of proper facilities for practice, hence poor goal shooting from
               (b) No tall lads.
Both are necessary for the development of a strong team, and both must
be rectified before the next season. The Captain, Alan James, and Vice-Captain,
Len Henderson, deserve special commendation for their excellent performances.
The team : Alan James, Len Henderson. George Maleevsky, Graham Lancaster,
           David Gordon and Gary Ingram.
                                      B GRADE
              both teams.
                                 (Reasonably Good Form)
The B team contained only two boys who had played fixtures before.
Their season commenced with a huge defeat at the hands of Wynnum North.
However, the lift in the standard of the team's play during the season was
phenomenal, and by the last fixture they had formed a strong unit. The boys
could be justly proud of their own efforts. The team : Gary Shapcott (scored
over two-thirds of their points). Darryl Brown, John Brinnand, Lester Neumann,
Mark Ledger. John Roe. Neil Dolci, Robert Klose. Robert Wilson and
        Bruce Andrews.
