CROSS COUNTRY

For the fourth year in succession Chris Hubbert won the cross country
an outstanding performance which will be difficult to equal.
The only record broken was in the Under 16 event, where Tony Endean
ran strongly to easily break the previous record by 58.5 seconds for his second
win in two years. The closest tussle was in the Under 15 race; in a neck and
neck struggle Paul Ban led Bill Rowbotham to the finishing line.

In spite of rumours to the contrary, one student did not use his motor
bike after he puffed to a halt at the top of the “goat-track". Official invigilation
prevented the use of any artificial aids.
House results were well divided. Cunningham scored most points in the
Open. Mitchell in the Under 16. and Oxley in the Under 15. However, for the
second year in a row, Kennedy House was far too strong overall, securing
more than one-third of the total placings. Well done. Kennedy — this was a
        good team effort.

                             G.P.S. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
(School Spirit — A Credit to Wynnum High)
This year the G.P.S. Athletics Carnival was certainly a memorable occasion.
The carnival was the most enjoyable for quite a while. This was attributed to the
fact that the day itself was perfect, and the enthusiasm of both competitors and
spectators rose to the occasion. Special thanks must go to the spectators, whose
support carried the competitors on so much that Wynnum High succeeded in
coming seventh this year, thus tying with Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.
