INTER-HOUSE CARNIVAL
(Cunningham's Year)
House Sports:
Cunningham increased its fine-point lead of last yean but again it was a
neck and neck struggle that had all guessing until the end. The lengthened
programme ran perfectly as the houses fought beneath a bright sun. Spectators
enjoyed the strenuous play, but points for most smiles went to those who
competed — next year let the qualifying races be even more packed.
The new events in field games, provided for the first time this year,
received a warm welcome. Competing in these events will surely increase
Wynnum’s inter-school standing and allow our girls a wider range of interests
in which to engage.
Memorable Happenings :
Girls struggle to master new events.
T. Redfern (M.) breaks two Under 14 records of 10 years standing —
5ft. lin. in the High Jump, 17ft. 8Jin. in the Long Jump.
N. James soars for 20ft. 3 Jin. in the Open Long Jump, breaking a seven
year-old record, and in two age groups, Mitchell and Oxley boys
dead-heat for Age Championship.
Outstanding Achievement:
C. Hubbert wins every open track event except the 110m. Hurdles. (100m.,
200m.. 400m., 400m. H.. 800m.. 1500m.)!
