1.11 Differences between benign or cancerous thyroid nodule
It is usually not possible to tell if a thyroid nodule is cancerous or benign based on physical
examination or blood test.
a) an ultrasound of the thyroid
b) a fine needle aspiration and biopsy (FNAB)
1.12 How are thyroid nodules treated
Most patients with benign thyroid nodules do not require any specific treatment and are
usually followed up once or twice a year for changes in size.
1.13 Underwriting implications of hyperthyroidism
Unless treated, mortality risk is low. All those using anti-thyroid drugs usually achieve
remission. Thyroid eve disease may cause serious impairment fission.
