After Hours Premium for the Purposes of Emergency or Critical Response
Emergency or Critical Response is for events that have the potential of disrupting business for any material
length of time. Examples would be security alarms, computer malfunction, building leaks, data processing that
requires no users signed on (month end, year end, and system upgrade, etc.). After hours are defined as follows:
For normal working days, the hours between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM; weekends, provided it is not part of an
employee’s normal shift; statutory holidays; and vacation leave.
With a Manager’s approval, for those employees engaged in Emergency or Critical Response, time will be paid
at time and a half (1½ times) regardless of the number of hours worked in a week. Such wage at time and a half
(1½ times) cannot be compounded with normal overtime in excess of forty (40) hours.
Attendance
A) Attending Work
We need you here when you are scheduled to be here. When you are late or absent, other staff members must
pick up the slack and do more than their fair share. We ask that you make every effort to be ready to work at
your scheduled time and location.
B) Lateness and Absenteeism
If you are going to be late for work or you are sick and cannot come in to work, you are required to:
a) Call and speak to your department Manager/Supervisor. Ideally, this will be done before your
scheduled shift begins or as soon as possible. They will enter all sickness into Payworks time-
management system.
b) Leave a message with reception. You may do this by calling 519-853-3511 ext. 221.
If absent for more than three (3) consecutive days, you will be asked for a doctor’s note. We reserve the right to
request a doctor’s note for any illness resulting in absenteeism. There may be a fee associated with obtaining a
doctor’s note, and employees are responsible for this fee.
