The School Librarian is responsible for acquiring, organising, managing and distributing library
resources, and ensuring that library provision meets the needs of all its users.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Participates in the selection and acquisition of books, pamphlets, manuscripts, magazines,
periodicals and other educational material including audio-visual aids and equipment; prepares
requisition slips covering purchase of identified resources.
2) Catalogues, classifies, prepares abstracts and re-checks bibliographic information on print and
non-print material such as digital video discs, film reels, audio-visual cassettes, and the likes
maintained in the learning resource center; prepares catalogue cards for library materials.
3) Checks new acquisitions against invoices to establish cost price that will serve as basis for
charging borrowers in case of loss or damage; maintains consolidated data on library resources
and their costs.
4) Screens donated books, periodicals, magazines, and other educational materials to determine
their suitability for use in the school setting based on established guidelines.
5) Compiles syllabi of all curricular offerings to serve as reference for the identification, selection,
and acquisition of relevant library material; secures listings of recommended books and other
instructional materials complementing course syllabi as prepared by Deans, Principal, Program
and Department Chairpersons, and Subject Area Coordinators and their respective faculty
member, provides feedback on action taken.
6) Ensures the regular maintenance and order of the physical layout of library resources, facilities,
equipment, and furniture inside the library.
7) Provides information on the use of the library and on available resources either through
general orientations, individual consultation, or printed announcements.
8) Assists library user in analyzing their need for appropriate information, locating / identifying
source of required reference materials and in undertaking research and study at the library
premises; assists users in navigating the Internet, showing them how to efficiently search for
relevant information.
9) Implements controls to safeguard the library collections against pilferage, loss, or destruction
and recommends measures or penalties for erring clientele; accounts for losses and damage of
library materials that have not been established as loaned out to users.
10) Undertakes regular and annual inventory / physical count of books and learning resource
materials in collaboration with the Finance staff.
11) Participates in the identifications of outdated, damaged, or inappropriate materials to be taken
out of general circulation as well as those that have to be turned over to the archives.
12) Undertakes preparation of reports on library operations and patronage.
13) Signs application for clearance submitted by students, faculty members, and employees upon
verification of the absence of accountability for borrowed library materials.
14) Performs such other duties and responsibilities analogues, germane or related to and / or
implied from the above enumeration of duties and responsibilities.
Coordinates with: Vice Principal, Program Head, Research, Data
Protection Officer, Safety and Security Officer, Property Custodian, and
other services staff
