Chapter 7: Weigh-Less
Weigh-Less was established back in 1975 and the company promotes its
Weight Management Programme through a structured set of principles that
need to be followed in order to achieve success. These are complemented
by Weigh-Less branded foods that take the guesswork out of calculating how
many calories are in the foods.
The Weigh-Less philosophy is founded on a programme that stresses “live-
able, do-able and afford-able” in a way that encompasses sound nutritional
principles.
One of these core principles, as denoted by the name, is the weighing of
food to ensure that you get enough of it – but not too much.
One of the biggest problems with our eating patterns is the fact that we have
portions that are far too large. If you’re like Rob, who went to boarding
school, there is no such thing as food left over on a plate – you were either
forced to eat it, or because you knew you were not getting fed again for a
good few hours, you ate it anyway so that you’d not be too hungry before the
next meal. This could be a big psychological reason for your weight gain.
Remember, the body does not metabolise as well at 50 as it did at 15.
Weigh-Less helps with portion size control, while also ensuring that your
body gets enough – but not too many – calories.
The magic bullet
Unlike some of the diets above, which have been criticised for being fads,
Weigh-Less does not peddle snake oil and offer quick-fix elixirs. Weight loss
is a long-term thing, they say, in the same way that weight gain also took
time. As such, Weigh-Less proclaims that their programme only works as
