greater than these. These two commandments fulfill the law and the prophets.
The Scribe said to him well Teacher you have said the truth. He is one and there
is no other beside him. A man should love him with all his heart and with all the
soul and with the entire mind and with all the power and love his neighbor as
himself. This is far more important than all burnt offering and sacrifices. When
Jesus saw that he replied wisely. He said to him you are not far from the
Kingdom of God. All the people heard him with pleasure. From that day on no
man dared to question him. When Jesus had said these things he went forward
to go to Jerusalem. The Jewish Passover was at hand and many went up from
the towns to Jerusalem before the feast to purify themselves. They were looking
for Jesus. At the Synagogue they kept saying to one another what do you think
will he not come to the feast? The high priests and the Pharisees had already
commanded that if any man should know where he was he should let them know
so that they might seize him. Six days before the Passover Jesus and those who
were with him came to Bethany where Lazarus was whom Jesus raised from the
dead.
The Temple
He arrived at Bethany on the side of the Mount of Olives. Jesus then sent two of
his followers and said to them go to the village in front of us. As soon as you
enter it you will find an ass which is tied up and a colt with her which no man has
ever ridden. Untie them and bring them to me. If any man should ask you why do
you untie them? Tell him that our Lord needs them. Straightway he will send
them with you. Those who were sent went away as they were instructed to the
village and found just as he had told them. The ass and its colt were tied up just
outside the door to the house in the road. Two men were standing nearby as the
followers who were sent began to untie the ass with her colt. The owner said to
them why you untying them. They said to them as Jesus had instructed saying
our Lord needs them. He then permitted them. They brought the ass and the colt
to Jesus. The followers then put their garments on the colt and they sat Jesus on
it. As he ascended the road to the Mount of Olives a great many people cast
their garments on the road. While other cut down branches from the palm trees
and spread them on the road. People were going before him and coming after
him proclaimed aloud blessed be to Jesus who comes in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest. Some of the Pharisees mingled with
the multitude said to him rebuke your followers. He said to them I say to you that
if these should keep silent the stones would cry out.
