3-131 Do not leave a crane or hoisting device with the load suspended.
Always lower load to ground level. Always travel or move loads at
as low of a height as possible.
3-132 Do not store or stack material and parts in an unsafe manner.
3-133 Do not direct compressed air at yourself or toward a person.
3-134 Read and obey all posted safety signs and safety related
communications that are posted on bulletin boards or distributed
at weekly safety meetings.
3-135 Confined Space hazards exist where entry and/or exit of persons
are limited and the space is not intended for permanent
occupancy. These are areas where walls converge such that
entry or exit is limited, areas where the atmosphere could create
oxygen deficiency, respirable exposures above a PEL
(Permissible Exposure Limit) or IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to
Life or Health), flammable or explosive, engulfment or other
physical hazards to entrants. Examples include, but are not
limited to: bins, hoppers, silos, mixer drums, dryers, water truck
tanks, electrical vaults, barge hulls, etc. Specific training,
practices (procedures and/or permits) and DANGER – PERMIT
REQUIRED CONFINED SPACE – DO NOT ENTER signs apply.
Supervisors, entrants and attendants must be knowledgeable of
the potential hazards, duties, and rescue plans before allowing
person(s) to enter and conduct work in a confined space.
3-136 Use air or water hoses with care to avoid injury to yourself or
other persons in the area who may be injured from flying particles.
3-137 Do not use compressed air to clean clothing.
3-138 Be sure that the operator is aware of your location at all times
when you are working on or near moving equipment especially in
congested areas or stockpiles.
3-139 Do not place your hands near moving parts while lubricating
machinery. Use grease extensions or follow lockout/tagout
(LOTO) procedures.
3-140 Do not shovel material onto a moving conveyor or bucket elevator
unless a suitable guard, screen, barrier, or emergency pull cord is
in place.
3-141 Do not operate a piece of equipment unless you have been
trained in the task and you are fully qualified to operate that piece
of equipment. Task training must be documented.
3-142 Do not alter or modify structural members of fixed and mobile
equipment without supervisor approval.
