3-143 Keep vehicles and equipment a safe distance from unshored vertical
trenches or banks. Maintain a minimum clearance of at least 1 foot
away for every 1 foot of depth (OSHA trench rule). Evaluate shored or
sloped trenches and unstable or unpacked ground from a safe
distance prior to approach.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) (3-200)
3-200 Wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Be
aware of all safety rules in facility areas, which you enter or in which
you perform work.
3-201 Wear ANSI-approved head protection when on duty. Hardhats are
not required in office areas, break rooms, training rooms, plant control
rooms, and quality control labs or in mobile equipment, unless
required by facility management. However, hard hats are required
when operating fixed/mobile equipment equipped with open
booths/cabs.
3-202 Wear ANSI-approved eye protection with properly attached side
shields when on company premises and job sites. Eye protection is
not required in office areas, break rooms, training rooms, or plant
control rooms unless equipped with open booths.
3-203 Wear ANSI-approved safety boots. Refer to the Company’s boot
policy for details.
3-204 Do not wear loose clothing when entering areas that have moving
parts, machinery or conveyors.
3-205 Use hearing protection (earplugs, earmuffs) in all designated areas.
3-206 Wear proper clothing while on company property or while operating
company equipment.
3-207 When operating a chain saw, hearing protection, face shield and
protective chaps must be worn. Chaps must be made of cut resistant
material such as ballistic nylon.
Use of Ladders
3-208 Inspect ladders before use. Ensure labels are present and legible.
3-209 Do not use faulty or damaged ladders or ladders without safety shoes
(footings). Always report damaged ladders to your supervisor, who
must immediately remove and destroy the ladder. The supervisor
must also ensure that the ladder is replaced. Extension ladders must
be tied off or secured.
3-210 Do not use or construct a ladder unless it has a minimum rated
capacity of at least 250 lbs.
3-211 Do not use a ladder beyond its rated capacity.
