ELECTRICAL SAFETY (4-100)
GENERAL (4-100)
4-100 Do not work on electrical circuits unless you have been qualified
by the Area’s Electrical Department to do the work.
4-101 Wear the appropriate Arc Flash PPE when working on exposed,
energized electrical systems.
4-102 Do not change fuses or reset internal overloads unless you are
qualified to do the work.
4-103 Inspect PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and electrical tools for
damage/integrity before each use. All rubber gloves must be air tested
before use and dielectrically tested every six months. All other hot work
tools must be tested as per recognized standards.
4-104 Use approved electrical tools and equipment.
4-105 Before using a voltage meter always verify accuracy by testing a
known circuit.
4-106 Electrical equipment jumpers will only be applied for
troubleshooting purposes and applied by an electrical qualified
person.
4-107 Be familiar with all safety procedures necessary for your own
safety and the safety of other people while working on electrical
equipment and systems.
4-108 Do not work alone on any high voltage systems or power lines
greater than or equal to 600v (≥600v).
4-109 See Rule 8-601 for specific guidelines regarding minimum
clearances for working near overhead high-voltage lines.
4-110 Verify that all high electrical switching gear is labeled
appropriately. If there is no label, notify a supervisor
immediately.
4-111 Do not work on or enter any electrical restricted area unless
authorized to do so.
4-112 Do not handle electrical components when your hands are wet
or when standing in water.
4-113 Electrical equipment greater than 150 volts must be de-energized
prior to handling electrical cable. If energized cables are moved
manually, the use of properly rated insulated slings, hooks, ropes
or electrical gloves is required.
