Students’ Voice: Analisis dan Sintesis terhadap Bahan Ajar

Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the authors’ reading
strategies in writing a research article. The method used was a case study. The
data were collected through demographic profile and semi-structure in-depth
interviews with four participants, they were the faculty members from
reputable universities in Indonesia. The interview data were transcribed and
analyzed line by line to generate and develop themes. Five salient themes that
emerged in this research were (1) correlating prior and current knowledge, (2)
analyzing relevant literatures, (3) synthesizing relevant literatures, (4) scanning
the point of relevant literatures, and (5) coding the points of literatures. For
future improvement of increasing quality and quantity of writing and
publishing a research article, apart from practicing five reading strategies
above, to support reading to write an academic writing, institution should
enrich book collections and subscribing international journals. Also, university
should conduct writing a research article workshop frequently as well as
encourage English for academic purposes training either for lecturers or
students.

A. INTRODUCTION
Research is a key of national progress in all public sectors, including
education, technology, administration, policy, and so forth. That is why, the
government of Indonesia through ministry of research, technology and
higher education fosters lecturers to conduct research and publish their

research article either national or international journal. Since the lecturers are
main source of research publication.
Teaching staff at university plays important role in publishing research.
Because it is one of their main obligation, apart from teaching and
community service, research is also a must that is evaluated accordingly
(Government Regulation of Republic of Indonesia Number 37 year 2009). Yet,
