                  less on an academic journal, even if it is compared with ASEAN countries like

                  Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, Indonesia is left behind (sinarharapan.net,
                  2017).
                         Another  policy  made  by  the  ministry  of  research,  technology  and
                  higher education in increasing the number of publication is requiring those
                  who is doing master and doctoral program in Indonesia to write and publish
                  their article before completing their study (Regulation of ministry of research,
                  technology, and higher education of Indonesia number 44 year 2015). Even
                  for  undergraduate  students,  in  particular  universities,  publishing  a  research
                  article are as one of their requirements to finish study based on local policy
                  of their home university. Some parties are for the policy, but some are against
                  the  policy.  The  followers  of  the  policy  have  claimed  that  the  policy  would
                  increase  the  number  of  research  articles  publication  nationally  and
                  internationally. However, the opponents of the policy claimed there are some
                  issues  regarding  a  research  article  publication;  they  are  no  writing  cultural
                  backgrounds,  needing  long-lasting  exposure  and  internalization,  lack  of
                  academic  writing  sosialization,  lack  of  institutional  supports,  and  lack  of
                  lecturers’ help due to higher power distance (Mukminin, Ali, & Ashari, 2015).
                         Regardless of the debate and problem on research publication, writing
                  a research article is unavoidable for academician. To keep writing is the based
                  way  to  face  the  challenge.  Beside  that,  learning  how  to  write  and  publish
                  article from the reputable authors is the answer as well, especially learning
                  how  they  integrate  their  reading  strategies  with  academic  writing.  Since
                  reading is a key to enrich information and emerge an idea in generate a good
                  work  in  writing.  Reading  strategies  determine  the  quality  of  an  academic

                  writing (Al-shoram, 2014).
                         The  importance  of  reading  to  compose  an  academic  paper  has
                  become the focus of several previous studies (Abu-Ake, 1997; Delaney, 2008;
                  Al-  Mansour,  2014;  Zhao  &  Hirvela,  2015).  Despites  the  studies  have  been
                  conducted  by  previous  researchers,  studies  on  reading  and  writing
                  relationship to compose an academic writing like a research article are few.
                  Moreover,  none  of  researchers  explores  about  the  reading  strategies  in
                  writing a research article. Hopefully, the result of the research will be essential
                  in increasing research publication in Indonesia.

                  B. METHODS
                     1. Design of the Study
                         The purpose of this study was to examine the reading strategies used
                  by informants in composing a research article. I adopted a qualitative case
