Phone Screen Questions
General Questions
1. Why are you interested in the DOA opportunity with Vallejo Flood & Wastewater? Why are you
actively or passively looking for a new position?
I am most interested in the position because of the Director of Administration position. I have been
a Board Secretary for over 15 years. I feel that that area of my career, I would really like to grow into
another area. I am really looking for something that allows me to experience professional growth. I
am not actively looking, I often look at K&A's website and I happened to see this job opportunity,
and I thought it was a great opportunity to apply advance. The contract manager manages the Koff
& Associates contract told me that the job is available.
Position Specific Questions
2. Please describe your highest level administrative support role to an Executive, Director, General
Manager and/or Board.
So my current position, I have been with ACTC for 8 years. The highest level here is the Executive
Director, I report directly to him. A 22 member board of commissions, Mayor, City Council, from
every city in Alameda County. In total there are over 40 elected division board members. I am the
liaison between the board and the public. I administer all of the public meetings. In a month we
probably facilitate over 11 public meetings. We have committee advisory meetings. That position is
really a high level position because I have to work with the public officials directly. So we work
together and I think that has really allowed me to be an effective team member for my agency. I
think working with the executive director and taking direction from them has afforded me a well-
rounded administrative skillset.
My direct report is the Deputy Director of Finance and Administration, but I also report to the
Executive of the agency.
3. Please describe your supervisory experience and the most challenging human resources issue you
have addressed.
Currently I supervise a public meeting coordinator. She coordinates all of our committee advisory
meetings with the public. One of the committees oversees sales tax, which makes sure that the City
is in compliance with what it says it will do with the voters. She collects all of the minutes, prepares
various material. She's a consultant - she's been here for 10 years and is a direct report to me. I also
manage a team of document control staff. I am responsible for overseeing all of the contracts,
