35. Estimation of Sodium Chloride Assay
SCOPE PROCEDURE
To estimate the assay of sodium chloride. 1. Take 0.2gm of sodium chloride sample in 250ml of
conical flask.
APPARATUS
2. Add100 ml of distilled water + 3ml of ferric alum.
FAnalytical Balance, 1 mg / 0.1 mg accuracy
3. Titrate with 0.1N silver nitrate until solution
FConical flask, 250 ml
becomes brown colour.
FBurette, 10 ml
4. Run the blank without taking sample.
FGraduated pipette, 10 ml, 5 ml
Note: Each 1 ml of 0.1N AgNo3 is equivalent to 58.44
mg of sodium chloride.
REAGENTS
F0.1N Silver nitrate: Dissolve approximate 1.699g
of silver nitrate, AR grade in distilled water and
made up to 100 ml
F5% ferric alum (16g of Ammonium ferric sulphate in
300ml of distilled water)
