Abstrak: This article aims to reveal the concept of malakok for citizens who
come from outside the region (Nagari), process of malakok in terms of marriage,
frequent conflicts. Phenomenological descriptive type of research, information
selection technique using purposive sampling method. Data analysis techniques
used by Milless and Hubberman consist of three activity flows, data reduction,
data presentation and conclusion making. Data validity was tested with Source
Triangulation. The results showed that malakok is a requirement to become
citizens who come from outside the territory (Nagari) a new place of residence,
it means they have ninik mamak which makes it valueable, if there is a marriage
process and death. Malakok family is not allowed to marry people from the
same tribe, the new ninik mamak becomes a place for deliberation if there is a
conflict, term and conditions must be fullfiled. Filling carano with betel and 5
golds supplemented as the agreement from ninik mamak, Cutting animals and
then praying as a notice to the community that the new malakok inhabitants,
officially becoming nephews in the tribe concerned, the process of bringing in
some penghulu for the surrender tribe to the new inhabitants. Conflicts often
occur in terms of marriage with the local population because don’t have a tribe,
in the case of death he hasn’t burial pandam, and origins, so his ashamed and
closes down because he is not considered doing malakok customs.
