Chapter 4 Frame and Carriage Assembly

            Carriage Prep

The following information is a recommended procedure to be carried out before the initial carriage installation. What this will
do is allow you to roll the machine back and forth on the rails without having to fight with the drive system which is tied into
the drive gearbox. Since you will be able to roll the machine much easier, it will speed up the time it takes to properly space
the rails at both ends. It will also speed up the time it takes to set the right amount of slack for the boom hoses at the
machine side, the center of the boom arms, and also at the boom wall mount weldment. Below are the following steps to
            disassemble the drive mechanism:
            Process Overview

                                                Center Drive Shaft
                                                                              Apply Anti-Seize™
                                               Drive Coupling if needed.
                                               (typical)

                         Splined Shaft
                            (typical) Apply Anti-Seize™ if needed.
                                                        Also apply Anti-Seize™ inside
Apply Loctite™ 271 of the gearbox if needed
               when re-assembling

Tapered edge on this Aluminum Spline Shaft Spacer
is to go in the direction shown by the arrow
            1) Look in to the slot of one of the two drive couplings that connect the center drive shaft to the
passenger side and driver side splined shafts. Measure the gap between the splined shaft and
the center drive shaft. The measurement should be the same on both sides. Also the gap needs
to be centered between the two 3/8-16 fasteners that hold the drive couplings in place. Write the
measurement down so you can set the same distance once you are ready to re-assemble the
drive system. Please keep in mind that the shaft ends have Anti-Seize on them and it may need
to be re-applied if during disassembly it gets scraped off.

                                                      Drive Couplings

                                11/32” 11/32”
The above gap spacing is to be the same on both ends and the Drive Couplings are to be centered on the gaps
            2) Loosen the two drive couplings. This can be done with a 9/16” wrench. Once they are loose,
remove the couplings with their key stock and also the center drive shaft. Be sure not to misplace
               the key stock.
            3) Remove the 1/2-13 x 1” stainless steel fastener and the 1-1/2” OD flat washer that is located
inside the driver side roller assembly and is threaded in to the driver side splined shaft.
