b. Measure the radial clearance of the steering column

bearings. If it exceeds the limits, replace the bearing with
a new one. DI
• Install the upper and lower bearings of the steering
column onto the intermediate steering shaft. EG

• Place the probe of the dial gauge onto the center line of
the bearings. TR
• Sway the bearings up and down, and read the indicated

values.

7. Installing the steering column

a. Install the lower bearing of the intermediate steering FR
shaft.

b. Install the snap ring for the lower bearing of the ST
intermediate steering shaft.

Caution
BR
When installing the steering column bearing, coat

grease on the bearing.

c. Install the intermediate steering shaft into the steering
column.

d. Mount the upper bearing onto the steering column, and

use a bearing race punch to install the bearing into place.

When installing the steering column bearing, coat
grease on the bearing.
