7. And now be fruitful and multiply, e¢ëÐþe e¤þÐtó£ÓzÔêÐî.ï 28. Haran died during the lifetime of his father Terach, î−¢ÌëÖêìÔþ¤Óz−£ÑòÐt-ñÔ¼ö flÖþÖí³Öô¤ÖiÔî .ì×
spread throughout the earth and multiply on it. :dÞÖë-eëÐþe ±Óþ£ÖêÖëe'®ÐþÌL in the land of his birth in Ur Kasdim. :ó−ÞÌcÐNÔkþe'êÐaB£zÐðÔñB Þô±Óþ'ÓêÐa

8. Elohim said to Noach ÔìflÒò-ñÓê·ó−ÌíGÍêþÓôê¥ÒiÔî.ì 29. Avram and Nachor married. ó−¢ÌLÖòó£ÓíÖñþB§ìÖòÐîó«ÖþÐëÔêì¶ÔwÌiÔî .¬×
and to his sons with him, saying, :þ ÞÒôêÑñB£zÌêî−'ÖòÖa-ñÓêÐî The name of Avram’s wife was Sarai, − flÖþÖN·óÖþÐëÔê-³ÓLÞÑêó¥ÑL
9. Behold, I am making a covenant with you ó¢Ó×ÐzÌê−£Ì³−ÌþÐa-³Óêó−§ÌšÑô−'ÌòÐòÞÌí−Ìò–ÎêÞÔî.¬ and the name of Nachor’s wife was Milkah, í flÖkÐñÌô·þBìÖò-³ÓLÞÑêó¥ÑLÐî
and with your offspring after you. :óÞÓ×−ÑþÎìÞÔêó£Ó×μÐþÔï-³ÓêÐî the daughter of Haran [who was] ö'ÖþÖí-³Ôa
10. And with every living creature that is with you, ó flÓ×ÐzÌêþ¤ÓLÎê·íÖiÔìÞÔíLÓõ¥Óò-ñÖk³¶ÑêÐî.−
with the birds, the animals, í§ÖôÑíÐaÔa¹B«¼Öa

[28] During the lifetime of his father Terach. åéÄáÈàçÇøÆzéÅðÀtìÇò [çë]

“the Maker made man.” .óÖðÖêÖí³ÓêíÓNB¼ÖííÖNÖ¼ The Midrash Aggadah [however,] states, 330 ,þÑôBê íÖðÖbÔêLÔþÐðÌôe
There are many such instances in Scripture. :êÖþКÌnÔaíÑaÐþÔíöÑ×Ðî [that it means that] his father caused his death. ,³Ñôî−ÌëÖê−ÑðÐ−ñÔ¼ÓL
For Terach complained about his son, Avraham, to Nimrod ðBþÐôÌò−ÑòÐõÌñBòÐaóÖþÐëÔêñÔ¼ìÔþÓzñÔëÖwÓL
[7] And now be fruitful and multiply. 211 .eáÀøe eøÀtíÆzÇàÀå [æ]
for breaking up his idols, 331 ,î−ÖôÖñЮ³Óê³ÑzÌkÓLñÔ¼
According to the plain explanation, :B¬eLÐt−ÌõÐñ
whereupon he [Nimrod] threw him into a fiery furnace. ,LÑêÖíöÔLÐëÌ×Ðñ B×−ÌñÐLÌíÐî
the first [mention of eëÐþe eþÐt] is a blessing ,íÖ×ÖþÐëÌñíÖòBLêÌþÖí
Haran waited and said to himself, :BaÌñÐaþÑôBêÐîëÑLB− öÖþÖíÐî
and here it is a command. .−eeÌ®ÐñöêÔ×Ðî
“If Avram will be victorious, I am on his side. ,BlÓMÌô−ÌòÎê,ÔìÑ®Bò óÖþÐëÔêóÌê
According to its Midrash 212 [it is repeated here] :BLÖþÐðÌô−ÌõÐñe
And if Nimrod will be victorious, I am on his side.” .BlÓMÌô−ÌòÎêÔìÑ®Bò ðBþÐôÌòóÌêÐî
in order to equate one who abstains from propagating íÖ−ÐëÌþÐîíÖ−ÐþÌõÐašÑ½B¼ Bò−ÑêÓL−ÌôL−ÌwÔíÐñ
When Avram was saved, Haran was asked, :öÖþÖíÐñBñeþÐôÖê,óÖþÐëÔêñÔv−ÌpÓLÐ ×e
to one who commits murder. 213 :ó−ÌôÖcCÑõBLÐñ
“On whose side are you?” ?íÖzÔê−ÌôñÓMÌô
[9] Behold, I. .éÄðÀðÄäéÄðÂàÇå [è]
Haran said to them, “I am on Avram’s side,” !−ÌòÖêóÖþÐëÔêñÓMÌô:öÖþÖíóÓíÖñþÔôÖê
[Meaning:] “I agree with you.” ,CÖn̼−ÌòÎêó−ÌkнÔô
[whereupon,] they threw him into the fiery furnace LÑêÖíöÔLÐëÌ×Ðñ eíe×−ÌñÐLÌí
[God said this] because Noach was concerned èÑêBc ÔìÒòíÖ−ÖíÓL
and he was burnt [to death]. ,¹ÔþÐNÌòÐî
about fulfilling His command to have children íÖ−ÐëÌþÐîíÖ−ÐþÌõÐa šB½Î¼Ôñ
This is [to what] Ur Kasdim [refers]. 332 .ó−ÌcÐNÔk þeê :eíÓïÐî
until God made a promise to him í"ÖaÖwÔí Bì−̬ÐëÌíÓLðÔ¼
Menachem [ben Seruk], however translates— :¾Ôþ−ÑtóÑìÔòÐôe
that He would never again destroy the world. 214 ,ðB¼ óÖñB¼Öí³ÑìÔLÐñêHÓL
þeê as valley, .íּКÌa þeê
God did so eventually by saying to him: :Bñ þÔôÖêíÖòBþÎìÔêÖëe .íÖNÖ¼öÑ×Ðî
as in, “Glorify God in the valleys.” 333 ,’í eðÐaÔkó−ÌþeêÖa:öÑ×Ðî
“I agree to provide a permanent and strong covenant ³−ÌþÐa šefÌìÐî óeiÌš ³BNμÔñó−ÌkнÔô−ÌòÐòÌí
And as in, “The den of the serpent.” 334 .−ÌòB¼ÐõÌ®³ÔþeêÐô:öÑ×Ðî
[in support of] my promise −̳ÖìÖ¬ÐëÔíÐñ
Every hole and deep ravine is called þeê. :þeê −eþÖš šBôÖ¼¼ÔšÓëÖî þBì ñÖk
and I will give you a sign.” 215 :³Bê EÐñöÑzÓêÐî
[10] All the beasts of the earth with you. .íÆëÀzÄàõÆøÈàÈäúÇéÇç [é]
They are those who walk about with people. 216 :³BiÌþÐaÔíó̼ó−Ì×ÐlÔíгÌnÔíóÑí 330 Ber. Rab. 38, 13; Tanchuma. 331 Terach dealt in the manufacture and sale of idols. On one occasion Terach left
the idols in the care of the young Avraham. A woman brought some flower and asked Avraham to bring it as an
offering to the idols, whereupon Avraham picked up an ax and smashed all the idols and placed the ax in the hands
