 Yoseif’s brothers came ¹ flѽB− −¤ÑìÎê·eê¶ÒëÖiÔî  Sheini (Second Aliyah)  éðù
 and they prostrated themselves to him B'ñ-eîÎìÞÔzÐLÌiÔî  31. When he sees that the lad is not [with us], þÔ¼£ÔpÔíö−'Ñê-−ÌkB§³BêÐþÌkí†Ö−ÖíÐî .êñ
 with their faces to the ground. :íÖ®ÐþÞÖêóÌ−£ÔtÔê  he will die. ³¢ÑôÖî
 7. Yoseif saw his brothers and he recognized them, ó¢ÑþÌkÔiÔîî−£ÖìÓê-³Ó깧ѽB− êÐþ'ÔiÔî.ï  Your servants will have brought down E−‚ÓðÖëμ eð−¶ÌþBíÐî
 but he acted like a stranger to them. ó‚Óí−ÑñÎêþ¶ÑkÔòгÌiÔî  the white head of your servant, our father, eò−§ÌëÖê 'EÐcÐëÔ¼³¶Ôë−ÑN-³Óê
 He spoke harshly to them, and said to them, ·óÓíÑñÎêþÓôê¥ÒiÔî³B †LÖšó¤ÖzÌêþ«ÑaÔðÐ−Ôî  BERESHIT  to the grave in sorrow. :íÖñ ÞÒêÐLöB£èÖ−Ða
 “Where did you come from?” óÓfl³êÖaöÌ−¤ÔêÑô  32. For your servant became surety for the lad, þÔ¼flÔpÔí-³Óêë¤ÔþÖ¼·EÐcÐëÔ¼−¥Ìk .ëñ
 They said, “From the land of Canaan to buy food.” :ñÓ× ÞÒê-þÖaÐLÌñöÔ¼£ÔòÐk±Óþ'ÓêÑôe flþÐôê¤ÒiÔî  to my father, saying, þ¢ÒôêÑñ−£ÌëÖêó'̼Ñô
 8. Yoseif recognized his brothers, î−¢ÖìÓê-³Ó깣ѽB− þ'ÑkÔiÔî.ì  ‘If I do not bring him to you, E− flÓñÑê·ep¶Óê−ÌëÎêê¥G-óÌê
 but they did not recognize him. :eíÞŠþÌkÌíê'Gó£ÑíÐî  I will have sinned to my father for all time.’ :ó−ÞÌôÖiÔí-ñÖk−£ÌëÖêÐñ−̳ê'Ö¬ÖìÐî
                  33. And now, let your servant remain ·EÐcÐëÔ¼ê¥Öò-ëÓLÞÑ−í †ÖzÔ¼Ðî .èñ

               as a slave to my master instead of the lad. −¢ÌòÒðêÞÔñðÓë£Ó¼þÔ¼flÔpÔí³Ôì¤Ôz
 [6] And they prostrated themselves to him  Bì eåÂçÇzÀLÄiÇå [å]  Let the lad go up with his brothers. :î−ÞÖìÓê-ó̼ñÔ¼'Ô−þÔ¼£ÔpÔíÐî
 with their faces.  .íÄéÇtÇà
 [óÌ−ÔtÔêBñeîÎìÔzÐLÌ−Ôî means] they prostrated themselves to him  Bñ eìÐhÔzÐLÌò  34. For how shall I go up to my father − flÌëÖê-ñÓêí¤ÓñͼÞÓê·C−Ñ ê-−Ìk .ðñ
 on their faces.  ,óÓí−ÑòÐtñÔ¼  when the lad is not with me; −¢ÌzÌêep¤Óò−ÑêþÔ¼£ÔpÔíÐî
 Similarly every íÖêÖîÎìÔzоÌí [in Scripture]  íÖêÖîÎìÔzÐLÌíñÖköÑ×Ðî  lest I see the evil ¼ flÖþÖëí¤ÓêÐþÓêöÓtƒ
 implies the stretching out of the hands and feet.  :êeí óÌ−ÔñÐèÔþÐîóÌ−ÔðÖ− ¬eLÌt  that would befall my father.” :−ÞÌëÖê-³Óêê£Ö®ÐôÌ−þ'ÓLÎê
            45 1. Yoseif could not contain his emotions š†ÑtÔêгÌíÐñ¹‚ѽB− ñ¶Ò×Ö−-ê ÞGÐî.ê äî
 [7] But he acted like a stranger to them.  .íÆäéÅìÂàøÅkÇðÀúÄiÇå [æ]
 He acted as a −ÌþÐ×Öò [stranger] to them  −ÌþÐ×ÖòÐkóÓíÖñíÖNμÔò
 in his conversation by speaking harshly.  :³BLÖšþÑaÔðÐñó−ÌþÖëÐðÌa  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI  é"ùøAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
 [8] Yoseif recognized, etc.  .'åâå óÅñBé øÅkÇiÇå [ç]  [31] When he sees that the lad is not [with us],  øÇòÇpÇäïéÅàéÄk BúBàÀøÄkäÈéÈäÀå [àì]
 For he left them as bearded men. 63  :öÖšÖï−Ñôe³ÎìóÖì−ÌpÌíÓL−ÌõÐñ
                                      he will die.  .úÅîÈå
 But they did not recognize him.  .eäËøÄkÄäàGíÅäÀå  [I.e.,] his father [will die] from grief. 10  :B³ÖþÖvÌôî−ÌëÖê
 For he departed from them beardless  ,öÖšÖï³Ôô−̳ÎìêGÐaóÖñЮÓêÑôêÖ®ÖiÓL
       [32] For your servant became surety for the lad. 11  .øÇòÇpÇäúÆàáÇøÈòEÀcÀáÇòéÄk [áì]
 and now they found him fully bearded. 64  .öÖšÖï³Ôô−̳ÎìÔëêÖaî−ÖLÐ×Ô¼Ðî  If you should ask  ,þÔôêÒzóÌêÐî
 The Midrashic explanation 65  is:  :íÖðÖbÔêLÔþÐðÌôe  why I involve myself in this fray  þÑbÔ³Ðñ½ÖòÐ×Ìò−ÌòÎêíÖnÖñ
 “Yoseif recognized his brothers” [means that]  ,î−ÖìÓê³Óê¹Ñ½B− þÑkÔiÔî
                         more than my other brothers?  ?−ÔìÔêþÖêÐMÌôþѳB−
 when they were in his power  BðÖ−ÐëeþнÐôÌpÓLÐk
        [the reason is that] that they are all out [of this matter]  ,±eìÔaÌôóÖlek óÑí
 he recognized the fact that they were his brothers  î−ÖìÓêóÑíÓLþ−ÌkÌí
         whereas, I have tied myself [to it] with a strong bond  šÖïÖìþÓLÓšÐa−ÌzÐþÔMԚгÌò−ÌòÎêÔî
 and took pity on them.  ,óÓí−ÑñμóÑì−ÌþÐî  16  by accepting to be an outcast in both worlds.  :³BôÖñB¼ −ÑòÐLÌaíÓceòÐô ³B−ÐíÌñ
 “But, they did not recognize him”  .eíŠþÌkÌíêGóÑíÐî  [33] Let your servant remain, etc. 12  .'åâå EÀcÀáÇòàÈðáÆLÅé [âì]
 when he fell into their hands  óÖðÖ−ÐañÔõÖpÓLÐk
                   I am superior to him for all purposes—  ,epÓnÌôíÓle¼Ðô−ÌòÎêþÖëÖcñÖ×Ðñ
 to act toward him with brotherliness.  :íÖîÎìÔê Ba èBíÐòÌñ
                 in strength, in waging war and for service.  :LÑnÔLÐñe íÖôÖìÐñÌôÐñe íÖþeëÐèÌñ
 63  Therefore, their appearance had not changed significantly.  64  Thus, his appearance had changed.  65  Why the
 repetition of the fact that Yoseif recognized them; first in v. 7 and again here? The Midrash explains that the former  10  Unlike v. 22, here ³ÑôÖî refers to Yaakov.  11  “For your servant, etc.,” implies an answer to a question.  12  Why
 refers to the physical recognition, whereas the latter, to the way Yoseif treated his brothers.  should Yoseif agree to this exchange?
