 31. He [Yaakov] said, “Swear to me,” − flÌñ·íÖ¼ÐëÞÖMÌíþÓôê†ÕiÔî .êñ  Ten male donkeys loaded with the best of Egypt, óÌ−¢ÖþЮÌôëe¤hÌôó−£ÌêÐNÞÒòó− flÌþÒôÎìí¤ÖþÖNμ
 and he swore to him. B¢ñ¼£ÔëÖMÌiÔî  and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, óÓì«ÓñÖîþ¤Öa³…ÒêÐNÞÒò…³”ÕòÒ³ÎêþÓN¤Ó¼Ðî
 Yisrael prostrated himself at the head of the bed. ô :íÞÖhÌnÔíLê'Òþ-ñÔ¼ñ£ÑêÖþÐNÌ−eì'ÔzÐLÌiÔî  and food for his father for the journey. :CÓþÞÖcÔñî−£ÌëÖêÐñöB§ïÖôe

 He took his two sons with him, B fln̼·î−ÖòÖë−¥ÑòÐL-³Óêì„ÔwÌiÔî  “Do not be troubled along the way.” :CÓþÞÖcÔae£ïÐbÐþÌz-ñÔ ê

 2. It was told to Yaakov, saying, þÓôê–ÒiÔîë flҚμÞÔ−Ðñð¤ÑbÔiÔî.ë  and they came to the land of Canaan, öÔ¼flÔòÐk±Óþ¤Óê·eê¶ÒëÖiÔî

 [31] Yisrael prostrated himself.  .ìÅàÈøÀNÄéeçÇzÀLÄiÇå [àì]  “Ten male donkeys, etc.”  .’îèî ó−ÌþÒôÎìíÖþÖNμ
 When it is the time of the fox, bow to him. 14  :d−Ññð−Ìèнd−ÑòÖc−̼ÐaêÖñμÔz  The best of Egypt.  .íÄéÈøÀöÄî áehÄî
 At the head of the bed.  .äÈhÄnÇäLàÉøìÇò  We find in the Talmud 26 that he sent him aged wine  ,öÖLÖ−öÌ−Ô−BñìÔñÖMÓL ðeôÐñÔzÔë eò−Ì®Öô
 He turned toward the Divine Presence [the Shechinah].  .íÖò−Ì×ÐMÔíðÔ®ÐñBôЮԼCÔõÖí  from which old people derive pleasure.  .epÓô−ÑííÖìBò ó−ÌòÑšÐï³Ô¼ÔcÓL
 It is from here that they [the Sages] derived  ,eþÐôÖêöêÔkÌô  [However, in the] Midrash Aggadah 27  [we find]  :íÖðÖbÔêLÔþÐðÌôe
 that the Shechinah is above the headrest of a sick person.  :íÓñBì ñÓLî−Ö³BLÎêÔþÑôíÖñмÔôÐñíÖò−Ì×ÐMÔíÓL  [that it was] pounded beans. 28  :ñet ñÓLö−̽−ÌþÐb
 Another interpretation of íÖhÌnÔíLêÕþñÔ¼:  ZíÖhÌnÔíLêÒþñÔ¼:þÑìÔêþÖëÖc  Grain, bread.  .íÆçÆìÈåøÈa
 for his [conjugal] bed was perfect  ,íÖôÑñÐLB³ÖhÌôíÖ³Ð−ÖíÓLñÔ¼  As Onkelos translates it.  :BôebÐþÔ³Ðk
 and none of the offspring was wicked.  ,¼ÖLÖþíÖaíÖ−ÖíêGÐî
                                       And food.  .ïBæÈîe
 Witness the fact that Yoseif was a king  ,êeí CÓñÓô¹Ñ½B− −ÑþÎíÓL
                       Things that are eaten with bread.  :öÖzÐõÌñ
 who was also a captive among the heathens,  ,óÌ−BbÔíö−ÑëÐñíÖaÐLÌpÓL ðB¼Ðî
               [24] Do not be troubled along the way.  .CÆøÈcÇaeæÀbÀøÄzìÇà [ãë]
 yet, he was steadfast in his righteousness.  :BšÐðÌ®ÐaðÑôB¼ êeí −ÑþÎíÔ î
              Do not become involved in halachic discussion  ,íÖ×ÖñÎíþÔëÐðÌëešÐqԼгÌzñÔê
 [1] Someone said to Yoseif.  .óÅñBéÀìøÆîàÉiÇå [à]  so that the road not become a menace to you. 29  .CÓþÖcÔíóÓ×−ÑñμïÔbÐþ̳êHÓL
 [“Someone” refers to] one of the messengers,  ,ó−Ìð−ÌbÔnÔíöÌôðÖìÓê
                            An alternate explanation:  :þÑìÔêþÖëÖc
 this being an elliptical verse.  ;þѮ֚êÖþКÌôíÓï−ÑþÎíÔî  30
                          Do not take very large steps  ,íÖqÔèíÖ¼−̽Ðõ e¼−̽ÐõÔzñÔê
 Others say:  ,ó−ÌþÐôBê LÑ−Ðî
       and arrive [at your evening stop] while there is still daylight.  ,þ−̼ÖñíÖnÔìÔëe½ÐòÖkÌíÐî
 Ephraim was frequently with Yaakov for study,  ,ðeôÐñÔzÔaëҚμÔ−−ÑòÐõÌññ−ÌèÖþíÖ−ÖíóÌ−ÔþÐõÓê
                    As for the plain meaning of the verse,  êÖþКÌôñÓL B¬eLÐõ−ÌõÐñe
 and when Yaakov took ill in the Land of Goshen,  ,öÓLBb ±ÓþÓêÐaëҚμÔ−íÖñÖìÓLÐ×e  it can be said that, because they were embarrassed,  ,ó−ÌôÖñÐ×Ìòe−ÖíÓL−ÌõÐñ,þÔôBñ LÓ−
 Ephraim went to his father in Egypt to tell him.  :Bñ ð−ÌbÔíÐñóÌ−ÔþЮÌôÐñî−ÌëÖêñÓ®ÑêóÌ−ÔþÐõÓêCÔñÖí
                he was worried lest they quarrel on the way  CÓþÓcÔa eë−ÌþÖ−êÖnÓL,èÑêBð íÖ−Öí
 He took his two sons with him.  .BnÄòåéÈðÈáéÅðÀLúÆàçÇwÄiÇå  concerning his being sold,  ,B³Öþ−Ì×ÐôþÔëÐcñÔ¼
 So that Yaakov might bless them before his death.  :B³Bô −ÑòÐõÌñëҚμÔ−óÑ×ÎþÖëÐiÓL−ÑðÐk  to dispute with one another by saying,  :þÔôBñÐîíÓïó̼íÓïìÔkÔîгÌíÐñ
 [2] It was told.  .ãÅbÇiÇå [á]  “It was because of you that he was sold”  ,þÔkÐôÌòEÐðÖ −ñÔ¼
 I.e., the messenger told Yaakov,  ëҚμÔ−Ðñð−ÌbÔnÔí  [or,] “You are the one who told slanderous things about him,  ,î−ÖñÖ¼¼ÖþÖí öBLÖñÖzÐþÔt̽íÖzÔê
 but [the verse] did not specify who [told].  .−ÌôLÔþ−ÑõêGÐî  and caused us to hate him.”  :B³êÒòÐNÌñ eòÖñÖzÐôÔþÖèÐî
