 and this is what their father spoke to them ·óÓí−ÌëÎêó¥ÓíÖñþ¶ÓaÌc-þÓLÎê³ê…ÒïÐî…  and they said, e flþÐôê¤ÒiÔî
 when he blessed them. ó flÖ³Bê CÓþ¤ÖëÐ−Ôî  “Perhaps Yoseif still bears a grudge against us. ¹¢Ñ½B− eò£ÑôЬÐNÌ−e'ñ

 which Onkelos translates as íÖêÖðμ.  .íÖêÖðμóÖbÐþe³ÐôÔí  they [the Egyptians] acted with respect  :ðBëÖkóÓíÖëeèÎíÖò
 There is another example of it in Hebrew:  :³−ÌþÐë̼ öBLÖñÐaíÓôBð Bñ LÑ− ðB¼Ðî  [towards the brothers]. 224
 “Then is the [ñÖñÖLðÔ¼] great spoil divided.” 203  ,ñÖñÖLðÔ¼šÔlŠìïÖê  [15] Yoseif’s brothers saw that their father was dead.  .íÆäéÄáÂàúÅîéÄkóÅñBé éÅçÂàeàÀøÄiÇå [åè]
 This being a reference to Shaul,  ,þÑôBê êeí ñeêÖLñÔ¼Ðî  What is the meaning of eêÐþÌiÔî—they saw?  ?eêÐþÌiÔîeíÔô
 who rose [to power] at the “morning and sunrise”  öÖ³Öì−ÌþÐïe öÖþКÖa³ÔlÌìгÌaðÔôÖ¼ÓL  They realized his death through Yoseif’s conduct.  ,¹Ñ½B− ñÓ®ÑêB³Ö³−ÌôÐë eþ−ÌkÌí

 Even after Israel’s sun will set  ñÑêÖþÐNÌ−ñÓLöÖLÐôÌL¼ÔšÐLÌzÓMÌô¹Ôê  out of respect to his father.  ,î−ÌëÖê ðBëÐkñ−ÌëÐLÌa
 at the hands of Nevuchadnezzar  ,þÔvÓòÐðÔ×eëÐò−ÑðÐ−ñÔ¼  But, once Yaakov died he no longer received them warmly.  :öÖëÐþÑšêGëҚμÔ−³ÑnÓMÌôe

 “He [Binyamin] will divide the spoil:”  .ñÖñÖLšÑlÔìÐ−  [Here eñ means:] lest he still bears a grudge against us.  ,eòÑôЬÐNÌ−êÖnÓL
 Mordechai and Esther, who are of Binyamin’s tribe,  ,ö−ÌôÖ−ÐòÌaÌôóÑíÓL,þÑzнÓêÐî−Ô×ÐcÐþÖô  The word eñ takes on different meanings:  ;íÑaÐþÔíó−ÌòÖ−Ðò̼ÐñšÑlÔìгÌôeñ
 will divide the spoil of Haman,  ,öÖôÖíñÔñÐL³Óê ešÐlÔìÐ−  sometimes eñ is used as a wish and “oh, that!”  ,−êÔîÐñÔí öBLÐñe íÖLÖwÔa öBLÐñÌaLÑnÔLÐôeñLÑ−
 as it is said:  :þÔôÍêÓpÓL  As in: “Oh, that it might be as you say!” 225  ,EÓþÖëÐðÌ×−ÌíÐ− eñ :öBèÐk
 “Behold, I have given Haman’s house to Esther.” 204  .þÑzнÓêÐñ−ÌzÔ³ÖòöÖôÖí³−ÑëíÑpÌí  [or:] “Oh, that you might listen to me!” 226  ,−Ì òѼÖôÐLeñ
 Onkelos translates [ñÖñÖL]  óÑbÐþÌz ½eñКÐòeêÐî  [or:] “Oh, that we had been content!” 227  ,eòÐñÔêBí eñÐî
 as referring to the spoil of the priests  ó−ÌòÎíÒkÔíñÔñÐLñÔ¼  and “Oh, that we might have died.” 228  ;eòгÔôeñ
 [which they receive] from the holy [sacrifices]  −ÑLÐðÖšÐa  Sometimes eñ is used to mean “if” or “perhaps,”  ,−ÔñeêÐîóÌê öBLÐñÌaLÑnÔLÐôeñLÑ−Ðî
 of the Beis Hamikdosh. 205  :LÖcКÌnÔí  as in: “If they were wise,” 229  ,eôÐ×Öì eñ :öBèÐk
 [28] And this is what their father spoke to them,  íÆäéÄáÂàíÆäÈìøÆaÄcøÆLÂàúàÉæÀå [çë]  [or:] “If you obey my commandments,” 230  ,−Ô³BЮÌôÐñÖzÐëÔLКÌíeñ

 But, were there not some of them  óÓíÑôLÑ−êGÎíÔî  Sometimes eñ is used to mean “lest”  :êÖnÓL öBLÐñÌaLÑnÔLÐôeñLÑ−Ðî
 that he did not bless,  ,óÖ×ÎþÑëêHÓL  [as in our verse:] “Lest he still bears a grudge against us,”  ,eòÑôЬÐNÌ−eñ
 but, rather, reproached them?  ?öÖþЬÐòÌšêÖlÓê  but there is no other example of this [usage] in Scripture.  ,êÖþКÌnÔëíÓôBc ðB¼ Bñ ö−ÑêÐî
 But, this is the explanation:  :BLeþÑtCÔ×êÖlÓê  [Here] it has the meaning of −Ôñeê—perhaps,  ,−Ôñeê öBLÐñ êeíÐî
 “And this is what their father spoke to them”—  ,óÓí−ÌëÎêóÓíÖñþÓaÌcþÓLÎê³êÒïÐî  as in: “Perhaps the woman will not come back with me” 232  ,−ÖþÎìÔêíÖMÌêÖíCÑñѳêG−Ôñeê BôÐk
 referring to everything that was said above.  .öÖ−Ðò̼ÖaþÔôÍêÓpÓLíÔô  where −Ôñeê has the meaning “lest.”  ,êeí êÖnÓL öBLÐñ
 One might therefore think that he did not bless  CÔþÑëêHÓL ,ñB×Ö−
