Director Oksun Dede said about the work of getting the fes-
tival together: “They tore down the Emek cinema (translator’s
note: a cinema building in Istanbul with left-wing and trade union
associations which the AKP tore down) but we know very well that
we can put together cinema in every area, in factories, neighbour-
hood entrances and depots. I say, long live the camera reversal.
The Kazova workers spoiled their calculations.”
After the speeches the Sambistanbul Rhythm Group took the
stage. Their cheerful rhythms caused everyone to fill the dance
floor. A fair selection of the media was present, and Austrian tel-
evision also filmed it. Among the guests was DISK Nakliyat-Is gen-
eral secretary Ali Riza Kucukosmanoglu, who continually visited
the workers and phoned when he was unable to. He was called to
the stage and said, “This is a handful of workers but under the
leadership of the DIH they accomplished a great deal of work and
occupy an honourable place in the struggle of the working class.
In a period in which the trade unions struggle has hit bottom we
have done everything with the MNG workers to give support and
solidarity. Our struggle will continue until we have a classless so-
ciety without exploitation,” he said.
Zafer Gultekin spoke in the name of the sub-contracted work-
ers for the BELTAS firm which is connected to Besiktas munici-
pality who have been resisting for about one month for a trade
union collective bargaining agreement. While still working for four
or five days, the Genel-Is trade union no.1 branch chairman Hik-
met Aygun told how he was fired for giving support to the legiti-
