We spoke with Barbaros Sansal by telephone and he congrat-
ulated us. He said he shared word of resistance by e-mail and
would visit us personally. In the afternoon students from Bogazici,
Mimar Sinan and Bilgi universities visited.

Our day passed with actions. During the day we had visitors.
We chatted with them and drank tea until 3 pm, when we set out
to read a press statement in front of Calik Holding after the boss’s
daughter Gaye Somuncu made a complaint to the prosecutor’s of-
fice. Our action went well. The press was there. They interviewed
us.

After the action we returned to our tent. Our next action
would be in Mecidiyekoy. We prepared our slogans. After resting

and eating a meal we set out at 6 pm.

At half past six, as soon as we opened our banners, plain-
clothes and Rapid Reaction police with shields suddenly blocked
our way. People reacted, saying “Look how people are seeking their
rights and they immediately get their shields out and prevent
them”. The pretext: there was a call to go to Taksim, security, etc.
etc. We distributed leaflets, chanting our slogans “We don’t want

charity, we want our rights, we won’t let Umit Somuncu take away
our rights, we will win by resisting” and we marched as far as Sisli
mosque. We marched hand in hand forming a chain and it was a
very good action. Some waved to show their support, others
clapped. We read out a press statement in front of the mosque.
In the meantime, the media showed considerable interest in our
action. We chanted our slogans, finished our action and returned
